Baseball

RSAT’s baseball analytics team engages in various conferences, competitions, and showcases to strengthen our own skill set and prepare members for a career in sport analytics. Every March, members of our team attend the SABR Conference in Arizona and complete rigorous projects for submission to the SABR Diamond Dollars Case Competition. We also partner with Syracuse’s Sport Analytics club to host an annual Syracuse x Rice data challenge. Through this competition, students are placed in small groups to complete technical projects that answer challenging baseball questions. Groups compete in multiple rounds, answering different questions and showcasing their projects/findings.

Football

RSAT's football analytics team engages in various conferences, competitions, and showcases to strengthen our own skill set and prepare members for a career in sport analytics. One example is the NFL Big Data Bowl, where RSAT Football has had one finalist and two semi-finalists named thus far. This year, two teams of RSAT Football (5 total people) were named finalists for the NFLPA's annual Data Case Competition.

Soccer

RSAT’s soccer analytics team actively engages with the broader soccer analytics community beyond Rice’s Division I programs. Team members participate in conferences and competitions that emphasize applied analytics, strategy, and decision-making, including the American Soccer Insights Summit hosted at Rice University and the Tulane International Fútbol Negotiation Competition hosted by Tulane Law School. These experiences expose students to real-world applications of analytics in front-office, legal, and competitive contexts. As the club continues to grow, RSAT Soccer aims to expand its presence at additional conferences, workshops, and intercollegiate competitions.

Technical Projects

RSAT's Technical Projects team aims to develop our members' technical skills to prepare them for life beyond the classroom. In 2025-2026, we have been working on a comprehensive NBA Draft Board to evaluate college prospects and their NBA team fits. Through projects like these, we work to go beyond segments of projects that you would see in a class and instead cover the entire pipeline from data collection to front-end publication.
