RSAT IMPACTS

Baseball
RSAT’s baseball analytics team works directly with the Rice Baseball coaching staff to track and analyze data, provide postgame reports on individual player performance, compile advance scouting reports on upcoming matchups, and complete other projects upon request. We maintain an interactive dashboard for coaches to track internal data and generate custom reports. Our work is year-round as we assist with recruiting, transfer portal evaluation, offseason scrimmages, practices, bullpens, and game tracking. Our team comprises 20 undergraduate students, many of whom desire to work in the baseball analytics industry following graduation. Areas of specialization include technical projects, baseball operations, video, and technology.

Football
RSAT's football analytics team works with the Rice Football coaching staff on longer-form research projects across football analytics. In the past, our work has included: game strategy (think fourth-down models), transfer portal modeling (both predicting likely transfers and identifying top targets for Rice), advance scouting (analyzing opponent team tendencies), and more. The team comprises 13 undergraduate students, most of whom aspire to work in sports full-time following graduation. Many members of the team also work as recruiting and scouting interns for Rice Football, helping analyze film and assisting with campus visits.

Soccer
RSAT Soccer works closely with the Rice Soccer coaching staff through consistent, weekly communication throughout the season. The team delivers pre-match and post-match reports for every opponent and match, with a focus on chances created, chances defended, and set-piece performance. These reports are discussed directly with coaches to ensure alignment with tactical priorities and match preparation. In the offseason, the group undertakes data-driven projects geared toward future planning, including opponent talent-loss reports and strategic trend analysis. Across all work, the team emphasizes the intersection of video footage and statistical analysis, using each to contextualize and validate the other in support of coaching decisions.

Men's Basketball
Our men's basketball analytics team works very closely with the Rice Basketball coaching staff to develop scouting reports for our opponents. Each report includes a general data overview of Rice compared to our opponent, utilizing advanced statistics, percentile figures, and a film overview. Each report also includes a collection of player scouting reports, highlighting the opposing team's top threats. Additionally, we track stats for every practice, providing the coaching staff with daily performance reports and a cumulative table. To accompany the practice stats, we create shot charts for practices and games, allowing the coaches to clearly see the team's shot distribution metrics. We have also completed a variety of special projects and reports upon request. The team consists of 25 undergraduate students looking to work in basketball analytics, operations, or scouting after graduation.

Women's Basketball
RSAT’s women’s basketball analytics team works directly with the Rice Women’s Basketball coaching staff to support the program throughout the season. The team tracks practice and scrimmage statistics and produces detailed scouting reports for upcoming opponents on a game-by-game basis. We work closely with coaches to make sure the data we provide is clear and useful. Our work focuses on in-season preparation and opponent analysis, helping coaches identify tendencies, prepare game plans, and support player development and overall team performance.

Technical Projects
RSAT's Technical Projects team aims to develop our members' technical skills to prepare them for life beyond the classroom.
